Château de Ferrières

chateau de ferrieres

Built in the 1850s by the British gardener-turned-architect Joseph Paxton, the Château de Ferrières is a gigantic prodigy house that expresses the wealth and power of Baron James Mayer de Rothschild in an eclectic, but distinctively European key.

The château is sadly stripped out today, but watercolours by Lami give a rare, if idealized, insight into a Jewish country house brought alive by people, light and movement.
