Domaine du Château de Seneffe

"The project gave us the opportunity to delve into one of the many stories of the castle that we only knew superficially. Currently we have designed two videos aimed at telling the general public about the Philippson family at the Domaine de Seneffe. We also have a project for an interpretation centre… In short, participation [in the project] allowed us to consider differently the promotion of the history of our museum".

In 1909, the Château de Seneffe was acquired by Franz Philippson,(1851-1929), a German born businessman, who was very active in international Jewish philanthropy and advised the Belgian government on post-war reconstruction in the 1920s. He was a banker, a major entrepreneur and a key figure in the Belgian landscape at the beginning of the 20th century. He was interested in politics, social issues, art and education. He married Mathilde Mayer and with her he supported several artists such as the sculptor Charles van der Stappen and the painter Fernand Khnopff.
