Constance is a PhD student at Durham University, under the supervision of Dr. Tom Stammers. Her thesis explores the material and social identities of transnational Jewish families in England and in France, c.1870-1930. By studying the houses, collections and patterns of consumption of a dozen families, her project aims to examine the cultural and stylistic values that underpinned their supranational identity and taste.
Constance obtained her BA in Art History from the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland) before completing her MA in History of Decorative Arts and Historic Interiors at the University of Buckingham in partnership with the Wallace Collection. During her MA she interned as a research assistant to Dr Silvia Davoli at Strawberry Hill, whose research focused on the Stern-Michelham family and their collections. Prior to commencing her PhD, Constance completed a Post-Master’s Degree in Research at the Ecole du Louvre while also working at the Preventive Conservation Department of the Mobilier National in Paris, researching, inventorying and documenting the historic furniture collections of the French state.
